Step 1: Get a certification from a Minnesota-licensed healthcare provider for a qualifying condition.
Step 2: Register with the Minnesota Medical Cannabis Registry online.
Step 3: Receive email approval and instructions for your first dispensary visit.
Step 4: Meet with a dispensary pharmacist to determine product type and dosage.
Telemedicine: Minnesota permits telemedicine certification for medical cannabis patients.

Medical Patients:

    • Up to a 30-day supply, capped at 2.5 ounces of flower every 14 days.
    • Forms allowed: flower, concentrates, oils, pills, liquids, and edibles.

Recreational Adults (21+):

    • In public: 2 ounces flower, 8 grams concentrates, 800 mg THC in edibles.
    • At home: Up to 2 pounds flower.
    • Home grow: 8 plants total (4 flowering), locked and not visible from public view.

    • Public spaces where smoking/vaping is permitted

❌ Prohibited:

    • Indoor public places, public meetings, workplaces, public transport
    • Anywhere minors could inhale smoke or vapor
    • Federally subsidized housing (HUD restrictions)
    • Heavy machinery or vehicle operation
    • Vehicles (parked or moving)

Protections:

    • Registered patients are protected from criminal penalties for lawful possession and use.
    • Employment protections exist for qualifying patients (with exceptions for safety-sensitive positions).

Penalties for Violations:

    • Possession above limits or public use in prohibited areas can lead to fines or misdemeanor charges.
    • Federal law still prohibits cannabis on federal property.
